Discussion About Flex 3

September 18th, 2007 No comments

An interview (more likely a discussion) with Adobe’s technical evangelist, James Ward, talking about the upcoming Flex 3 product. The feature that took my attention is Persistent Framework Cache which can lower the size of the application ALOT because of available caches from previous visited Flex application. Another great feature Ward stated is the memory and performance profiler which allows the developer to know exactly the memory leak and performance bottleneck.

Flex 3 SDK will be available for free under MPL license. And one of their goals is to make Flex 3 SDK will be fully open source upon the release of Flex 3. Keep up the good work Adobe! Make us proud!

Microsoft announced the release to the Web (RTW) Silverlight 1.0, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering richer user experiences on the Web. In addition, Microsoft will work with Novell Inc. to deliver Silverlight support for Linux, called Moonlight, and based on the project started on mono-project.com.

SilverLight is an application to create rich internet applications that competes Flash/Flex. Microsoft can only hope to catch us with Flash Player penetration.
